Obituary of Bruce Zinaman
Bruce Zinaman, of Loch Sheldrake, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at his home, he was 63.
The son of the late Edward Martin Zinaman and Mildred Goldblatt, he was born December 21, 1954 in Queens, NY.
Bruce grew up in Queens with his family and moved to Connecticut for his special educational needs. He lived in his own apartment, worked independently at a grocery store and a deli. He loved travelling with his family. Everyone who met Bruce loved him. He was once nicknamed the mayor of Stamford. He was one of the first members of the NYS Special Olympics. He participated in Connecticut Special Olympics in all seasonal sports and won many gold medals and even went to an International Special Olympics for fall sports. He was named Connecticut's Athlete of the Year one year. In his 50s Bruce started to show the signs of early onset Alzheimer's and moved from his sister, Robin's house to New Hope Community in Loch Sheldrake. He had many happy years living in this wonderful place.
He is survived by his sister Robin Zinaman of Middletown, NY and his Brother David Zinaman of the Dominican Republic. He is predeceased by his sister Sandra Ann Zinaman.
There will be a Celebration of his life on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 11:00am at Wallkill Living Center 455 Schutt Ext Road Middletown, NY 12940, Cantor Devora will officiate.
In lieu of flowers donations in Bruce's name can be made to the Bruce Zinaman Fund at New Hope Community PO Box 289 Loch Sheldrake, NY 12759.
