Obituary of Sophie Kwoka

Sophie Kwoka, 88, formerly of Mountaindale, NY, passed away Sunday, July 15th, 2018 in Greenwich, CT. Sophie, daughter of late Alexander and Susan Shkoditch, was born in New York, NY. She married George Kwoka Sr. in 1949, and moved to Brooklyn, NY, where they raised their family. Sophie was a bookkeeper for an advertising firm in Manhattan and spent the summers with her family in Mountaindale, NY, where they ran G&S Bungalows until 1976. They eventually retired and relocated there in 1991. Sophie was an active member of All Saints Russian Orthodox Church in Pine Bush, NY for many years.

Sophie was an extraordinarily caring and loving woman who had a very strong bond with her husband. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was passionate about cooking, and reading mystery novels. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and cross-country skiing.

Sophie will be greatly missed by all of her family. She leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter, Dr. Suzanne Lewis and her husband Stephen of Greenwich, CT; daughters-in-law Helene Kwoka of Mountaindale and Regina Kwoka of Staten Island; 10 grandchildren—Adam, Andrew, Christopher, Courtney, Gregory, Kristen, Matthew, Michael, Nicole, and Stephen; 7 great grandchildren—George, Jacob, Malik, Minaal, Nahla, Nora, and Zayn; as well as three nephews—Alexander, Frank, and Paul, and a niece Marie.

Sophie was predeceased by her beloved husband George Kwoka Sr. in 2011; her two brothers, Alex and Joseph; and her two sons, John Kwoka in 2008 and George Kwoka Jr. in 2015.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July, 20, 2018 from 5- 8 PM at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. Panakayda will be held at 7PM at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at All Saints Russian Orthodox Church, 287 Jansen Road, Pine Bush, NY, at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville, NY.
