Natt Krieger

Obituary of Natt Harvey Krieger

Natt H. “Harvey” Krieger, last surviving son of the late William and Faye Krieger, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the age of 90, surrounded by his family and loved ones in Hollywood, FL.  Born at home and a long-time resident of Woodridge, NY, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Eileen Joy Krieger, last year on September 18. It was a testament to their enduring love that he succumbed on what would have been her 88th birthday. Those who knew them in life were unsurprised.

After graduating from Woodridge High School,  Harvey served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.  Upon returning home, he joined the family business, Krieger Chevrolet and Oldsmobile, which he managed until retirement at 80.  As a graduate of General Motors Technical and Dealer training programs, Harvey’s passion for automobiles, engineering, and machinery lasted his entire life as GM, Saab, and Subaru models came and went with their various trainings and technical idiosyncrasies. Harvey was always in motion physically and mentally.  His work ethic and belief in service, boundaries, and integrity extended to civic endeavours in Woodridge where he worked on urban renewal and other public issues and throughout his retirement as an active member of the Board of Directors of his condominium association in Hollywood.

Harvey loved golf, travel, cowboy movies, square dancing, solving technical puzzles, his children, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. The love of his life and his true soulmate was his wife,  Eileen. Harvey had a warm manner which attracted people. In those joyful ways in which two together may be so much more than the sum of their parts, they forged, modeled, and left a living legacy of love for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Harvey and Eileen lived their values together.

Besides Eileen, his wife of 67 years, Harvey is predeceased by his daughter Lynne DeGraw, son and daughter-in-law Bart and JoAnne Krieger, and by his brothers Irving, Seymour, and Riven. He is survived by his son Dr. William Krieger of Hollywood, FL, daughter Marci Kling and son-in-law Barry of Framingham, MA, and son-in-law Wayne DeGraw of Nashville, TN; grandchildren: Neeka, Gavin, and Joey DeGraw, Jessica Briel and husband Peter, Adina and Benjamin Kling; great-grandchildren: Anahlea, Eden, and Cameron Jaccarino, Kylie and Ryan Briel.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Krieger of Pinecrest, FL, his brothers-in-law Arthur Burns of Tusten, CA, and Richard Burns and sister-in-law Leda Burns of Hollywood, FL, many beloved nieces and nephews, and friend of 66 years, Dorothy Zalkin of Weston, FL.

The family remains grateful to his loving and devoted caregivers, Isabel Arreaga, Amber Molitar, and Ethel Vanterpool.
