Obituary of Frederick James Robertson

Frederick James Robertson died peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Cortland, NY surrounded by his loving daughter Laurie and her husband Pat. He was 86 years of age. Fred was born to Wilbur and Myrtle (Little) Robertson on January 7, 1931 in White Sulphur Springs, NY. He married Kathryn (Robisch) Robertson on April 11, 1954. After graduating from Youngsville Central School in the Class of 1948, Fred joined the United States Navy in 1951. Upon separating from military service, Fred then worked for the New York State Department of Corrections for 41 years until his retirement in 1990. Fred was a devoted member of the Grahamsville Reformed Church where he served as Treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Church Consistory and faithfully contributed to church dinners and numerous other events. Fred truly enjoyed helping people and assisted many friends and neighbors during the years that he resided in Woodbourne. He and Kathryn also served as members of the Family Council of the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty, NY with Fred serving as Family Council President. They developed wonderful friendships with fellow council members. For the past two years, Fred resided at Walden Place in Cortland, NY making many new friends and living near his daughter and family in Ithaca, NY. Fred was predeceased by his wife Kathryn, and is survived by three children: Charles Robertson of Pensacola, FL; Laurie Gillespie, her husband Patrick and their daughter Olivia of Ithaca, NY; and James Arthur Robertson of Virginia Beach, VA. He leaves four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette Worden of St. Petersburg, FL; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many very dear friends. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, October 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grahamsville Reformed Church in Grahamsville, NY. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs, NY on October 7 following the service and a luncheon for family and friends.
