Obituary of George Silverman

George Silverman, of Livingston Manor, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. He was 96.

He was the son of the late Samuel Silverman and Fannie Sorkin, born on August 16, 1921 in Bronx, NY.

George came from a line of hard-working men. His father owning and operating a family farm which George eventually began caring for. He was a man full of stories of his past and could recollect tiny details to help you paint the picture of the days of his youth. George knew how to have fun too, was always seen being involved in his community whether it be with the Rotary, Fire Department, Chamber of Commerce or the Synogogue. He had a taste for ice cream, so much so that he bought the Manor Frosty Cup. In his free time he painted with acrylic paint in the style of Bob Ross. George was known to be the local handy man, and enjoyed helping his neighbors fix things and mowed and plowed his neighbor's properties on White Roe Lake Rd. George was a long standing member of the Rotary Club and was treasurer for many years. He was often setting up the sound for the ice carnival and other Rotary events, sharpening skates, making hot dogs for various events. He was also a member for 70 years of the fire department. George could be found pulling a large homemade trout on wheels with his lawn tractor for trout parade. He would often be seen in his role of fire police directing traffic when there was a fire. He was also known for riding around town on his motorcycle with a side car that he got when he was 85, he was the oldest person in New York to get his motorcycle license. He was a loving father uncle and friend, and will be truly and deeply missed.

He is survived by his children: Joel Silverman and his partner Deri and Debbie Ross and her husband Mike; his grandchildren Shannon and Erin; great-grandchildren Kenzie and Oliver; nieces Sally Capone and Joanne Mermell; nephews Alan and Edward Silverman.
