Obituary of Robert W. Lyons III
Robert W. Lyons III, of Sarasota, FL formerly of Woodbourne and Liberty, NY, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017. He was 91.
He was the son of the late Robert W. Lyons II and Mary Hofediener, born on July 17, 1926 in Manhattan, NY.
Robert worked as plant manager for Liberty Central Schools until his retirement. He truly enjoyed his time at the school, seeing the children’s smiling faces every day. It was said by most of those, now adults, that heard his name “Mr. Lyons was the greatest, he always helped me open my thermos at lunchtime.” Robert was known for his great sense of humor and playing tricks and practical jokes. In his free time he enjoyed working out in the yard, playing his weekly card games, attending the United Methodist Church and was a die-hard NY Mets fan. He was also little league coach and a member of the little league board for 12 years during his time at the school.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years Lois Lyons; children: Betty Lou Siematkowski and her husband Walter, Barbara Hans and her husband Bill, Pam Potter and her husband Scott, and Robert Lyons and his wife Andrea; Step-son John Roberts and his wife Rhonda; grandchildren: Jessica Siematkowski-Penny, Walter “JW” Siematkowski and his wife Meredith, Billy Hans and his wife Clarisa, Anthony Hans and his wife Lara, Carisa Hans-Luciano and her husband Jose, Robert & Marie Lyons, Margaux and Kymberlee Potter and Matthew, Ashley and Jessica Roberts; his 15 great-grandchildren; his siblings Kenneth Lyons and his wife Annemarie and Dorothy Crocco; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Violet “Dutchie” Lyons; his sister Elenore Smith; and step-children Rick Roberts and Judy Roberts.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 11am to 2pm at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. A funeral service will be held following visitation at 2:00pm. Rev. Walter Haff will officiate.
