Obituary of Lori Borden

Lori Borden, of Belfast, NY, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital after a courageous battle. She was 46.

She was the daughter of Thomas Matthews and Connie Lee VanWagner, born on November 26, 1970 in Liberty, NY.

Lori was a proud graduate of Tri-Valley High School where she was an active cheerleader then went on to SUNY New Paltz with a degree in psychology after attending Sullivan County Community College. She worked at Woodbourne Correctional Facility for a number of years until moving on to work as a Senior Case Worker for Child Protective Services in Allegany County. Lori was always full of life, she truly enjoyed watching her children play sports, cooking and all her family and friends and particularly loved the holiday season. She always had a smile on her face that lit up the room no matter what she may be facing and really believed that laughter was the best medicine. But above all else she loved her three children with everything she had and always put them first. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her parents Tom and Connie Matthews; children Cody Borden and his wife Mariah of Croghan, NY, Samantha Stenzel and her husband Nick of Fillmore, NY, and Matthew Borden of Belfast, NY; her first grandchild due in January; siblings Bridget Hurwitz and Thomas and Katrina Matthews; nieces and nephews Brittany, Jenna, Trey, Adam, Meagan and Shaina; as well as a host of friends.

Family and friends may gather from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm on Monday, September 25th at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N. Genesee St., Fillmore, NY and 12 to 2pm on Tuesday, September 26th at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2pm. Rev. Paul Z. Ruter will officiate. Interment will follow at Claryville Reformed Cemetery, Claryville, NY.
