Obituary of Yolanda Shorter

Hi, Yes, this is me, Yolanda Trinette Shorter. I was born March 27, 1970 in Ellenville, New York in a small hospital, while outside there was a blizzard going on. Crazy right? I was a very spoiled baby, not just by my parents, but by my brothers as well. And let's not forget about my favorite aunt who would drive past our house in her Volkswagen bug when I was 3-4 years old, if by chance my Mommie had let me go outside to play with my brothers, my aunt would take me and tell my brothers not to tell my Mommie. It sure was a load of fun to be with her. I did whatever I wanted to, until my Mommie showed up to take me back home. I attended elementary, middle school and high school in Hempstead, New York (Long Island) where my mother moved to be with her family when I was five years old. After graduating high school, I attended York University in York, Pennsylvania majoring in African American Studies, minoring in Sociology. During high school years, I made friends that became my sisters, (since by birth, I have none). They are still my sisters, we stay in touch every week. I will miss our conversations. I had not graduated college when my Mommie decided to move to the state of Oklahoma. So I graduated from OU with a BS degree in Sociology. They had no degree in African American studies at that time. After a few years, I started working at my present job with the Oklahoma County Clerk Office and made a lot of friends that I really cherish. Tara, I miss you but please know I loved and admired you so much. Thanks for being my best friend. Thanks to all the lawyers and judges who touched my life, I love you all. To all the people in the County Clerk Office, Thank You. I have no children to leave behind but there is my mommie, Dorthey Shorter; my daddy Willie Shorter, Sr; my brothers, Willie Shorter, Jr. and Anthony (Michelle) Shorter; to all my special nieces, one nephew, all my cousins; my aunt, Thelma Durham and aunt Louise Daniel; my uncle, Houston Smith. One more thing to my brothers, please take care of my Mommie. That is all for now until we meet again, Bye, Bye.
