Dear Friends, Family and Loved ones of Ernie,
I knew Ernie from the Bronx, where we grew up around the corner from each other and hung out together. I just googled his name and saw the sad news.
Ernie and I were seeing two young ladies from Hollis, Queens in the late 50's. He married Rosalie Zasloff, his girlfriend, but I missed hooking up with mine, Marsha. We ran into each other in lower Manhattan, in 1965 and went out for lunch in a Chinese restaurant on 2nd Avenue, around 10th Street. Marsha had her little daughter with her. I was married at the time and also had a young daughter.
I remember that Ernie's marriage with Rosalie didn't last too long. I ended up losing touch with him in the early 60's when I started working for the FAA and then got married in '62 and moved to Queens, and had 3 kids who are all grown up with their own children. That was a long time ago.
Ernie was a beautiful guy, good looking and with flaming red hair and a wild outlook on life. I also remember he had a cousin, Al Zuckermendel, who lived a few blocks away and we used to go over to Al's house to meet with him. Al's parents were strictly Orthodox so we couldn't call him on Saturday's. We'd just go over to his house. And sometimes Al would drag us to go to services on Saturday mornings.
I'd love to hear from anyone who knew Ernie or Al or even Rosalie or Marsha. I live in Livingston, NJ and my email address is listed above. Feeling down this weekend, thinking about Ernie and his having passed. My condolences to all.
