Obituary of Joseph N. Novogrodsky

Joseph N. Novogrodsky of Woodridge passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was 88. He was the son of the late Michael and Katherine Yaremchuk Novogrodsky; born on January 19, 1928 in Woodridge, NY. After proudly serving his nation in the United States Army from 1951-1953, Joe owned and operated New York Bar and Grill in Woodridge, NY with his brother Johnny. He later retired from the Woodbourne Correctional Facility as a motor vehicle operator. He was a member of the Woodridge Fire Department where his favorite activity was playing on the softball team. A talented athlete himself, Joe was an avid supporter of local athletics especially the Fallsburg Comets. He particularly liked basketball and baseball, but most of all he loved watching his son, daughter and grandson play in all their sporting events. Paramount to Joe was his family and he enjoyed spending time with them. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him. Joe is survived by his loving children Michael Novogrodsky and his wife Dorothy of Woodridge, Tracy Novogrodsky and her husband Tom Mountsier of California; his grandchildren Tiffany Novogrodsky and Douglas Novogrodsky and his wife Alexandra; his great grandchildren Joey and Kory Novogrodsky, Ravyn and Sonja Henry; his sister Ann Baldi; sister-in-laws Irene, Pookie, Judy, and Lucille; brothers-in-law Steve and Leo, his favorite nephew Jared, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of almost 50 years, Alice Devore Novogrodsky; siblings, Mary, Helen, Frances, Rose, Kay, Paula, Nicolas, William, Johnny, and Tilly. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 7-9:00pm. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the funeral home at 10 AM. Following the gathering, interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Woodbourne, NY. Donations in Joseph's name can be made to a charity of one's own choice.
