Obituary of Joseph Harold Smith

Joseph H. Smith, Jr, was called home on November 19, 2016 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. He was born on April, 27, 1952 to the late Jennie Mae Sampson and Joseph H. Smith Sr. He attended Plainfield Elementary and High Scholl and eventually relocated to the Catskill Mountains, where he met his domestic partner Debra M. Kimble of 35 years and became a father and step-father to Debra's children. Sullivan County became his place of employment and he would take up residence here. Big Joe worked in various hotels; such as The Homowack, The Concord, Kutcher's Hotel and other as a prep cook. His last place of employment was at the Pine Grove Dude Ranch Resort, in Kerhonkson, NY where he worked as a prep cook then a maintenance tech for many years. He dedicated his life to his family and friends. He was loving, dependable, and a no-nonsense man who kept his word. He enjoyed being around food, and he liked being in the kitchen. Joe would often initiate having dinner parties and barbecues for his family and friends. He would often extend his hand to help those that he could be of assistance to. Where ever there was a kitchen, Big Joe was in it. We all loved Joe and we will miss him dearly. He is survived by his loving domestic partner Debra Kimble; his son Gimel Smith of Woodridge; his beloved step-children Kenneth M., Kimyatta V., Ronald V. and Omar V.; his brothers Kevin and his wife Anna of Tennessee and Michael Smith of Plainfield, NJ; his sisters Mary Smith of Buffalo and Silvia Smith of Newark, NJ; his Aunt Diane of New Brunswick, NJ; niece Ayanna; as well as several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He meets in Heaven his sister Donna Lynn Smith; and his parents. Visitation will be held from 12 to 1pm on Saturday, December 3rd at Little Grove Holiness Church, Highland Ave, Woodridge, NY 12789.
