Joseph Hare

Obituary of Joseph C. Hare

Joseph Curties Hare, 76, of Livingston Manor entered into eternal life early Monday, November 21, 2016. Known as Joe, he was the son of the late Harold C. Hare and Lucia F. Albanese, born on October 15, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY Joe was formerly of Old Tappan, NJ and a longtime resident of Livingston Manor. After owning a Citgo station and repair shop from a young age in Dumont, NJ he retired from the Town of Rockland Highway Department where he was a mechanic for over 20 years. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Livingston Manor Ambulance Corp. and a third degree knight with the Knights of Columbus. Joe was also a member of the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, the Any Make, Any Model Car Club and the Catskill Region Antique Auto Club. As an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and travel. The fondness for cars and engines of all types began as a child. His passion for building, restoring, racing and collecting took off at age 16. It was The Thundering Turtles Car Club that spent a great deal of time in the 3-bay garage of the Hare family home in Dumont, NJ. Racing his prized possession with that club up and down the east coast and the antics that went along were just like a scene from his favorite movie, American Graffiti. Joe was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Nicolosi Hare, earlier this year. He is survived by their son, Pete Hare and his wife Coleen of Livingston Manor; daughter Christina Jurgens and her husband David of Livingston Manor; grandchildren Kaitlyn Hare and her fiancé Andrew Krantz, Justin Hare and his companion Samantha Darienzo, Jesse Jurgens and his companion Nicole Veling, and Devan Jurgens; great-grandson Westin Krantz; brother Peter C. Hare and his wife MaryAnn of West Chester, PA; as well as sister-in-law Debbie Fabyanski and her husband Tom of Mahwah, NJ; brother-in-law William Nicolosi and his wife JoAnn of Hawthorne, NJ; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe was devoted to family and friends and will be greatly missed by all. Memorial contributions in Joe's name can be made to White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 308, White Sulphur Springs, NY 12787. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Colonial-Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St. Livingston Manor, NY 12758.
