Obituary of Marion Kracht Stackhouse
Marion Gertrude Kracht Stackhouse of New Mexico formerly of Neversink passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at home. She was 100.
She was the daughter of the late Wilard W. and Hattie Avery Kracht, born on September 10, 1915 in Neversink, NY.
Marion proudly served our country for four years in the United States Army during WWII traveling overseas with the Europe Theater as a First Lieutenant. She graduated from Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing in 1936 at the age of 20. She later became the Director of Nurses at Hamilton Avenue Hospital and Community General Hospital; as well as part time as a nurse at the New York State Department of Corrections. She was a past member of AARP and the NYS Nurses Association for over 50 years. Marion was the first woman to be elected as a Coroner in Sullivan County.
She was a very active member of her community she was a dedicated member of the Liberty VFW, Secretary and Treasurer of Old Falls Cemetery, past secretary of Sullivan County Conservative Party, and was an instrumental person with opening Sullivan County Dialysis Center. She was woman of the year in Sullivan County in 1990. Marion loved her family and always was willing to lend a helping hand. She will be deeply missed by everyone that knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son Lee R. Stackhouse and his wife Donna of White Lake, 1 granddaughter Krista Berger and her husband Jason of Edgewood, NM., 2 grandsons Charles Stackhouse and his wife Amy and Nicholas Stackhouse all of White Lake, and one great grandson Kyle Berger and one sister Gertrude Miller of Florida.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband on December 13, 1963; Burdett R. Stackhouse whom she married in 1947 who also served his country during WWII and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, five brothers Bill, Mel, Bob, Charles, and Edward Kracht two sisters Mildred DePuy and Edith Kracht.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 4-8:00pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 10:00am Rev. Walter Haff will officiate . Interment will follow at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville, NY.
