Obituary of Martin Schwartz

Martin "Marty" Schwartz, 91, of Livingston Manor passed away on Wednesday June 8, 2016 at Roscoe Regional Rehab and RHCF, after a short illness. He was the son of the late Abraham (Boom) and Yetta Rosenthal Schwartz, born on September 5, 1924 in Livingston Manor, NY. As a child Marty had horses and unlike any other teens he had his pilot license before his driver's license. He proudly served our country in the United States Army Air Corp., from 1943-1946. For many years he worked with his father in the automotive industry at Schwartz Motors in Liberty, NY. Post WWII, he worked for New York City Water Supply System. He later became a Real Estate Broker and Insurance Agent. In partnership with Jim Farrell they owned Sullivan County Reality and Jim Farrell Insurance. Martin sold property, sometimes several times over to many people including John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Darren McGavin and many other luminaries. Martin was an avid gardener and had an exceptional green thumb and enjoyed tending to his small apple orchard. He was an avid fly fisherman and had an exceptional fondness for fishing the Willowemoc and Beaverkill Rivers. He was an active member of this community and one of the founding members of the Livingston Manor Ice Carnival sponsored each year by the Livingston Manor Rotary club; where he was past president. He was a member of the Catskill Fly Fishing Club, National Association of Realtors, Livingston Manor Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Lester White Post #566 and Sullivan County Historical Society. He had a for taste for fine wine and dining. He grew up in a family that owned and operated the Waldemere Hotel in Shandelee many different restaurants and hotels in South Beach Miami, Fl. He is survived by his wife Shirley E. Schwartz whom he married on November 11, 1950 his children Neil Schwartz and his wife Lea of Severna Park, MD, Lori Pittaway and her husband Stephen of Cherry Log, GA., and Susan Murphy of Bardonia, NY., his grandchildren Evan Schwartz, Daniel Schwartz, Briony Pittaway, Beth Pittaway and Abbey Murphy, one sister Shirley Sturm and her husband Ted of Boca Rotan, Fl. He was a key donor to the Roscoe Regional Nursing Home and RHCF throughout the years, so keeping with his generosity please make any donations in his name to them at 420 Rockland Road, Roscoe, NY 12776 or to the Livingston Manor Ambulance Corp. 98 Main Street, Livingston Manor, NY 12758. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Colonial-Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl Street Livingston Manor, NY 12758 at 11:00am., with Rabbi Fred Pomerantz officiating. Interment will follow at Agudas Achim Cemetery, Livingston Manor, NY.
