Obituary of Gloria Slutsky

Gloria Slutsky of Ellenville passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Ellenville Regional Hospital. She was 87. She was the daughter of the late David and Bertha Luttinger Brandmark, born on January 23, 1928 in the Bronx, NY. Gloria attended Queens College and graduated with a degree in teaching. She began her teaching career in the New York City public school system, where she worked for many years before marrying George and moving to Ellenville. She then worked for over 15 years as a 3rd grade teacher in the Ellenville Elementary School. She received the Certificate of Appreciation for Dedicated Service to the Children of the Ellenville Central School District. She truly loved teaching and reading. She was very involved in her community, she was a member of the Yenta-tainers, which was a group of women that would travel to different nursing homes and entertain the residents. Gloria was intrigued by her heritage and enjoyed studying Judaism. She always made her home a warm and comforting place to come and visit. She made many friendships all around the world that lasted a lifetime. For many they will remember her at Slutsky Lumber where she was a co-owner and worked side by side building the business with her husband. She left a lasting memory in her community and with her family and friends that will never be forgotten. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years whom she married on July 4, 1963 George Slutsky, her children Amy Sklar of NYC and David Slutsky of CT., her grandchildren Adina, Ari and Daniella Sklar, her sister-in-law Rita Helgesen, her nephew and his wife, Eric Helgesen and and Melissa Helgesen, great nephew Matthew Helgesen, niece Wendy Brandmark and her husband Peter, great niece Rosa, and a host of friends. There will be a funeral service at Ezrath Israel Temple, 34 Center Street, Ellenville, NY 12428 Today, Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 10:00am with Rabbi Frank Moshe officiating. Interment will follow at Ezrath Israel Cemetery, State Route 209 Ellenville, NY 12428. The family will observe Shiva that the family residence.
