Obituary of Melvin L. Gorr

Melvin L. Gorr Sr. of Livingston Manor passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 68, the son of the late Charles C. and Minnie McAdams Gorr, born on July 26, 1946 in Livingston Manor, NY. Melvin was an iron worker, as well as, a self-employed contractor that could fix anything. He was an avid outdoorsman who liked hunting, fishing and trapping. He was an honorary member of the Fir Brook Hunting Club. He volunteered at the National Turkey Federation. If you knew Melvin you knew he would give the shirt off his back to someone in need; he would often open his doors to strangers just so they had a place to be warm. He was the kind of man that would do for others and not ask for anything in return. He loaned his time, his truck, and gave away veggies, pickles and berries that he canned from his summer passion, his garden. He was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by everyone. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother and friend that will continue to live on in everyone's memories. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Maureen Gorr, whom he married on January 25, 1997; his children: Dawn D Auria and her husband, Al, Melvin L Gorr Jr. and his wife, Erin, Jake W. Gorr and his wife, Tracey, Kelvin L. Gorr, Sean Prendergast and his wife, Debbie, Denis Prendergast and his wife, Nicole; his grandchildren: Michael, Dylan and Daniel D Auria, Olivia, Julia, Mia, Kailee, Jason, Connor and Nicolas Gorr, Liam and Colin Prendergast; his sisters: Susie Sedlack, Shirley Jensen, Rose Gries, Darlene Slegona; his brothers: Lester and Martin (Hank) Gorr and Charles Schaff, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl Street, Livingston Manor, NY 12758 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Perry, Nurse Anne, hospital staff and Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
