Obituary of Merritt Madison
Merritt A. Madison Jr. of Livingston Manor died on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Catskill Regional Medical Center from Heart Disease. Merritt was born June 2, 1930 in Livingston Manor to the late Merritt A. and Isabel Will Madison Sr. On April 7, 1952 he married Mary Dayton Madison at the United Methodist Church in Liberty, NY. Merritt served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged April 15, 1954. He worked for Suburban Propane Co. as a service technician for over 30 years. Merritt enjoyed bowling, golfing and camping with family and friends; he also enjoyed hunting, fishing and cruses. He was a member of the Livingston Manor Senior Citizens, American Legion and Teamsters Union Local 445. Merritt was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of 61 years, Mary Madison, at home; his daughter, Kay Zak and companion, Gary Closius of Commach, NY; his sons: David and wife, Isabel of Southold, NY, Steven and wife, Kerry of Livingston Manor, Randall and wife, Melissa, Eric and companion, Ellen, all of Jacksonville, FL and Bruce and wife, Cathy of Livingston Manor; his grandchildren: Gregory Zak and wife, Christine, Melanie Zak and companion, Brian Hanson, Staff Sgt. Adam Madison and companion, Jennifer of the United States Marine Corp, Christine Madison, Kathleen Madison and companion, John, Kaci Madison and companion, Eric Schwartz, Liana Madison and husband, Sumer Mixon, Mitchell Madison and wife, Sarai, Bryan and Josef, Elizabeth, Alan, Ashley Madison and two step grandchildren: Ingmar and Vanessa Lara. He was also a proud great grandfather of 13; surviving also are his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Nancy Madison of Livingston Manor. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Robert and his son-in-law, Kenneth Zak. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at the Livingston Manor United Methodist Church, 89 Pearl St.; Rev. Francis Waite will officiate at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Lew Beach Cemetery with full military Honors.
