Obituary of Betty L Shaver

Betty L. Shaver of Lew Beach, 72, passed away in the comfort of her own home on Sunday November 16, 2014. Betty was born in Liberty, NY, on May 31, 1942 to the late Harry and Aletha Spencer Smith. Betty was the proprietor of The Beaverkill Trout Hatchery. She was also a meticulous bookkeeper and worked at Kirchner Chevrolet for many years. Betty was a member of the Co-Operative Extension, New York State Farm Bureau, past member of the OES Lodge #298, The Beaverkill Valley Fire Department Women's Auxiliary and The Livingston Manor Senior Citizens. Upon the sudden death of her beloved husband, Gary, she and her daughter Sherry continued to operate the family business, The Beaverkill Trout Hatchery. Betty was a true caring matriarch, she took pride in her children and grandchildren and all of their endeavors and accomplishments. She had great joy and pleasure in caring for and watching her grandchildren grow. She enjoyed her trips to the Casino where she savored playing the slot machines. Betty was surprisingly computer saavy but that did not stop her from giving her grandchildren a call to help her out. She is survived by her loving children: Sherry Bellows; Fred and his wife Carol Shaver; Lisa and her husband Scott Steingart ; Grandchildren: Philip Bellows and wife Jennifer ; Gary Tyler Shaver; Travis Michael Ratner; Ashlynne Brooke Ratner; Jordyne Shaver; Hannah Shaver; and Garrett Shaver; Nephews: Frank Shaver; Ruby Smith; Butch Smith; Bobby Smith and Niece: Sue Huggler. Along with her canine companion Wish. Betty is predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Gary, Her one son Kevin, and her brother Albert "Bucky" Smith. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Livingston Manor Volunteer Ambulance at 98 Main Street, Livingston Manor NY 12758 and The Beaverkill Valley Fire Department, 1524 Beaverkill Road Lew Beach NY 12758. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 11 am at the Funeral Home, Reverend Bridget LaConey will officiate. An internment will follow at Lew Beach Cemetery.
