Obituary of Catherine Kornylak
CATHERINE KORNYLAK
September 6, 1928 - September 11, 2014
Loch Sheldrake, NY
Catherine Kornylak of Loch Sheldrake, NY passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Mount Sinai Hospital. She was 86 years old.
Catherine was the daughter of the late Anna and Teofil Kornylak; she was born in Jersey City, NJ on September 6, 1928.
Catherine was best known for her straight forward sense of humor and wit, as well as her nurturing tendencies. She cared for others and this was always shown in her actions. Catherine enjoyed spending time in her home, and could often be found in her favorite recliner or keeping busy around her home. In good weather, she especially liked to sit on her patio, speaking with people stopping by and talking about the weather. Catherine took great interest in the lives of the people closest to her and loved to listen to the latest events of their lives. She often offered her thoughts and feedback, which were colored with her humor and personality, and could always make someone laugh. Catherine had a strong work ethic and placed great value on an honest day's work. This was a value she held for the length of her life and she always took pride in the work she did. Catherine had a passion for collecting Mickey and Minnie Mouse memorabilia, and an appreciation for a good piece of chocolate cake. She loved to see photos of the Royal Family and baby George. She loved pierogies and her sisters would often bring her handmade ones of her Ukrainian heritage.
Her family is very grateful for the real love she felt from the staff of New Hope. Our memories of Catherine will always stay in her family's hearts. She is unforgettable as well to the staff. Thank you Catherine for your unique sunshine with which you lit up our lives. We loved sending you boxes of treats and phoning you. You were someone to give love to which gave your sisters' lives great meaning. Being there for each other 100% is always the Kornylak family way. Without Catherine to do nice things for, leaves a huge hole in her sisters' hearts.
A very heartfelt thanks to Dr. Judith Lin of Mount Sinai, a very special doctor, who achieved much improvement in Catherine at the hospital and who showed immense concern for her.
Catherine's presence, her spirit, her sense of humor and her open ear and honest opinions will be greatly missed by those close to her.
Catherine is survived by her sisters: Dorothy Lord of Wall, NJ., her sister Helen Wirfel of California; her brother, Milton Kornylak of Florida; her niece, Diane Lord of Wall NJ; and her extended family at New Hope Community.
A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday, September 25th with services to follow at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne NY 12788. Interment will take place at the family's convenience at St. Annes Cemetery, Wall Township, NJ.
