Obituary of Fritz Joelson

Fritz "Fred" Joelson passed away in the early hours of Monday, January 3, 2011 at his home in Loch Sheldrake, New York. Fred was 82. Fred was born on October 8, 1928 to the late Paula (nee Horowitz) and Louis Joelson. As a child Fred lived with his family in Nuremberg Germany and prior to his family's immigration to the United States in 1940, Fred and his family were imprisoned in a Nazi Concentration Camp. Upon moving to the United States, Fred lived with his family in New York City. In 1946 Fred moved to Haverstraw, NY where he resided until 1975, when he moved to Loch Sheldrake, NY. Fred was a very personable and social man, who was always quick with a smile and a warm greeting. Fred enjoyed making others happy and would frequently sing songs, always eliciting a smile from those who knew him. Fred will be sorely missed by all that knew him. Fred is survived by his many friends at New Hope Community, as well as his cousin, Joan Zuckerman of Scottsdale, AZ. A gathering of friends and family will be on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 1-2:00pm at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY 12788. A funeral service for Fred will follow at the funeral home at 2:00pm with Rabbi Yakov Barrows officiating.
