Obituary of George Haag

George Christian (Stretch) Haag, passed away early in the morning February 17, 2011, due to complications from surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. He was born December 1, 1941, in Staten Island, the son of George and Helen Haag. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Haag; his mother-in-law Edith Porter; sons, Kenneth Haag, Karl Haag, Keith Eighmey; daughter Louise Dayton; grandchildren Kelly Eighmey, Keith Michael Eighmey, Mary Lee Warren, Michael Haag, Austin Eighmey; great-granddaughter Chloe Warren; brothers Mark (Chip) Haag and Matthew; sister Ruth Ann Phillips, many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and good friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Karl, his granddaughter Stephanie Diescher, and his father-in-law Rufus Porter. George was a scholar, a farmer, metal worker, civil servant, Eagle Scout, pillar and choir member of the Grahamsville United Methodist Church and respected member of the community of Grahamsville. George had a love for many things just to name a few baseball, football, and NASCAR. He received his associated from Delhi and later his Bachelors from Rhode Island University. For many years he worked as a Dairy farmer. He soon after began working for VAW Aluminum in Ellenville and later he retired from being a Code Enforcer for the Town of Neversink and Denning. He was a devoted family man, with a great and generous heart. His activities through the years included Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, past member of the Grahamsville First Aid Squad. He held most positions in the Grahamsville Fire Department, was an avid sportsman, and co-managed the Grahamsville Food Pantry with his wife Mary Lee. Visitation will be at Colonial Funeral Home 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY 12788, on Monday February 21, 2011 from 6-9 p.m. with Firematics Service at 7 p.m. A Celebration of Stretch\'s Life will be held at the Grahamsville United Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 22, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bob Kersten officiating. Burial will be in Grahamsville Rural Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in the Grahamsville UMC Fellowship Hall immediately following the burial. Stretch\'s family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grahamsville Food Pantry, PO Box 86, Grahamsville, NY 12740.
