Obituary of Joseph Sedlacek
Joseph Stanley Sedlacek, Jr. of Livingston Manor passed peacefully in his sleep under the gracious and compassionate care of Halifax Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Edgewater Florida, March 3, 2011.
Born September 7, 1924 in Moonachie, New Jersey to Joseph and Melita. He was raised in Parksville along with his two brothers - James (Parksville, NY) and William; where his parents re-located to own and operate a private hunting lodge.
He is survived by his devoted wife Susie Jane Sedlacek, a loving , patient woman and mother to their five children, all born and raised in Livingston Manor. Their children includes three daughters- Terry Wolcott and her husband Terry, Nancy Sedlacek-Blume and her husband Matt, Susan "Boo" Fleischer-Cisneros; and two sons Joseph "Peppy" Sedlacek and David Sedlacek and wife Lauren.
Poppy Joe (or Clawdad) is how he was known lovingly and kiddingly by his six grandchildren; Cory Dame and husband Rich, Brian Wolcott and wife Stacie, Jessy and Jami Sedlacek, Aaron Fleischer and Oscar Cisneros. And his three great-grandsons Jonathan and Joseph Wolcott and Lucas Dame. He had numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was a decorated WWII Veteran of the Fighting 69th Infantry. He had a sweet-tooth for hunting and fly-fishing the Catskills and Adirondacks with his sons and friends. He loved to tinker with remote control airplanes and other gadgets. So enthused about technology, he even taught himself how to use a Mac computer at age 82. He was a long time volunteer fireman and served as a former chief of Hoos Truck Company in Livingston Manor. He "chased bulldogs" for the Local 445 Teamsters until his retirement. He and Susie wintered in Edgewater, Florida surrounded by kind and good-hearted neighbors. After many years of receiving dialysis for complications due to diabetes, he received a kidney transplant at the age of 81 from an unknown donor, whose family we thank. His new leash on life let him return to many of his abandoned hobbies, and allowed him to know his great-grandsons.
We will miss your wit and solid advice. Sending you love on your new journey. We'll be watching for your trail of Mary Jane wrappers!
