Obituary of James Grey

James H. Grey of Stratford, NY formerly of Grahamsville, NY passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at home with his family by his side. He was 77. He was the son of the late Russell and Dorothy George Grey, born on October 15, 1935 in Cornwall, NY. In 1958 Jim graduated from Syracuse University. Following college he proudly served our country in the United State Air Force. He retired twenty years later as a Major and he completed one year in Vietnam. After his many years of serving our county he retired from Marcy South Power Lines and Sullivan County DPW as a Superintendent. He was an active man in his community; for many years he served on the town board of Neversink as a Councilman. Aside from his community, he loved fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with his family and would often go camping with them. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the United Methodist Church of Grahamsville. He will be truly missed by his community, friends and especially his family. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 55 years, Patricia Grey; his children: Scott Grey and his wife, Diana of Grahamsville, Cheryl Bertholf and her husband, James of Loch Sheldrake, and Regina Lambert and her husband, Jayson of Harrisville, WV; seven grandchildren: Kevin, Ryan, Casey, Patricia, Christopher, Garrett and Brianna; two great grandsons: Zaylon and Hunter; one sister, Joan Wood and her husband, Robert of Colorado, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers: William Henry Grey and Charles Edward Grey. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 28th at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. A funeral service will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 29th at the funeral home; Rev. Bob Kersten will officiate. Interment will follow at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville, NY. Donations in Jim's name can be made to the National Rifle Association of America, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030 or to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct.
