Obituary of William Martinez

William Raymond Martinez of Woodbourne passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 90. He was the son of the late Joseph and Pearl Winne Martinez, born on May 28, 1921 in Kingston, NY. William proudly served his country in the United States Air Force in World War II as a weather observer stationed in India; then served in the Air Force Reserves from 1950-1962. He retired from NY State Dept. of Correction on April 30, 1983. William was a member of many organizations such as the China Burma India Veterans Association, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Woodbourne Reformed Church and the Woodbourne Fire Company. Bill was an avid reader mostly interested in American History. The wonderful ladies on staff at Ellenville Public Library took a lot of care in serving his reading needs. William is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Edna Martinez at home, and his daughter Deborah Benjamin and grandson Chris Benjamin of Monticello. Chris was Poppy?s ?pride and joy.? Visitation will be on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 10-11:00am at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY 12788. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 11:00am. Interment will follow at the Wiltwyck Cemetery, 145 Pine Grove Ave. Kingston, NY. In lieu of flowers donations in Williams name can be made to St. Jude?s Children?s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9956, or Ellenville Public Library, 40 Center Street, Ellenville, NY 12428.
