Obituary of George Horos

George Horos Jr, retired bus driver for Varsity transit in Brooklyn and Monticello School District, died July 26, 2011, at home in Woodbourne with all his loving family by his side after a fearless battle with cancer. He was 74. George was born in Brooklyn on August 30, 1936. He was the son of the late George Sr and Anna Horos. George served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1953. He was a respected and courageous War Veteran. He was survived by his loving wife, of 52 years, Janemarie Horos, his three sons: Steven and his wife Donna Horos of Woodbourne, Joseph and wife Christine Horos of Grahamsville, and Brian and his wife Kristy Horos of Hopewell Jct; two daughters: Colleen Jonas and the late L. Scott Jonas of Woodbourne, Denise and fiance Eric Liepins of Liberty; sister Irene and husband Mike Altieri of Tombstone, AZ; twelve grandchildren: Dennis Lovett, Steven Jr, Kellyjane, Jesse James, Michael, Christiana, Cole, Kari, and Kaleigh Horos, and Jillian, Zachary, and Matthew Jonas; and two great grandsons Jordan Horos and Cameron Lovett and several special aunts. He loved to fish, hunt, and be a handy man to anyone who needed help. His contagious smile warmed the hearts of anyone who he came in contact with. He will be remembered for being the best mechanic and racing cars as well as being the kindhearted and loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 state Route 52 Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 2-5pm. A celebration of his life will be on at 5:00pm at the funeral home followed by full military honors.
