Obituary of Pincus Hilf
Pincus "Pinky" Hilf of Spring Glen, a former farmer, farm Coop manager and longtime area resident, died Monday, June 9, 2014 at his home of 12 years in San Francisco, CA.
Son of the late Oscar and Clara Hilf of Spring Glen, Pincus was born February 15, 1926 in Newark, NJ but his family moved to the Ellenville area at the age of two. After growing up a farmer raising cows, chickens, and feed crops, Pinky worked at the Inter-County Farmer's Co-operative in Woodridge for 28 years, many of them as Manager of the Equipment Department, as an expert on dairy and poultry equipment. After Inter-County closed his department, Pinky worked at local hardware stores and lumberyards including Wickes Lumber, and most recently the Trading Post in Rock Hill. In the 1930's until the late 60's Mr. Hilf and family also operated a small hotel and then a bungalow colony, in Spring Glen, Traditional Catskill Resorts.
Mr. Hilf was a longtime member of the Congregation Ezrath Israel and was also a longtime member of the Spring Glen Hebrew Congregation. Pinky also served two terms on the Town of Wawarsing Zoning Board of Appeals.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ira and Katharine Hilf of Antioclt, CA; a daughter and son-in-law, Esther (a.k.a. Ellen) and Shimon Revivo, of Netovat, Israel; seven grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
