William "The Guide" Conklin
William Conklin, of Hurleyville, NY, departed this life on November 19, 2011, he was 83 years old and fought a 6 year battle with Alzheimer's. Billy was born on May 17, 1928 in Monticello to parents Lyle and Gladys King Conklin, who predeceased him.
Billy served his country in the U.S. Army's Mule Pack Division he was a member of Laborers International Union of N. America Local 17 as well as a caretaker for Nob Hill Country Club in Kiamesha Lake. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved his time at the camp in Claryville. He also enjoyed playing his accordion and harmonica. Billy was also a member of the Hurleyville Fire Department.
Billy is survived by his best friend, caregiver, and loving wife Mari-Jane, sister Henrietta Ivan of Liberty, brother-in-law George and his wife Linda Fedun of Parksville, Sister-in-laws Pat Gibson and Sonya and her husband Mr. Bob Robinson. Along with a special cousin, Curtis "Quacker" Sonnenschein. He also leaves behind a son Howard and his wife Nancy Conklin, a grandson Jason and his wife Amy Conklin, a granddaughter Christine and her husband Ron Klein, great grand-daughters, Kimberly Klein and Brielle Conklin, great grand-sons Ron Klein and Rhys Conklin and many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents his sisters Gladys Boeckman and Audrey Olmstead predeceased him.
Mari-Jane would like to thank all the family and friends for their love and care that they gave her with Billy. And his devoted caregivers Brittney, Letise, Kayla and Shinella and the staff at Achieve Nursing and Rehab for their care to the end.
Visitation will take place on Sunday November 20,2011 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm with a Firematic service beginning at 7:30pm. Funeral Services will be held on Monday November 21, 2011 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY, at 11 am. Interment to follow at Luna Organization. Memorial Donations in Billy's name may be sent to the Hurleyville Fire Department, P.O.Box 357 Hurleyville, NY 12774.
