Vasili Bendersky

Obituary of Vasili Bendersky

Vasili Bendersky, of Livingston Manor, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Columbia Presbyterian. He was 82.

He was the son of the late Nachum and Nina Bendersky, born on March 27, 1937 in Tiraspol, Russia.

Vasili was known to be a very strong man who was full of life force, even at an early age, surviving nazi occupation of his home. When he was only 5 he lost his mother and was raised by his grandmother. After the war he was reunited with his father Nachman. Despite a hard begining he had a very positive outlook on life. Vasili served in the Russian Navy until he immigrated to Israel in 1976 where he then served in the Israeli Army. He met and married Ida Bendersky with whom he had two children. He learned his trade, sign painting, which he would practice for over 50 years, both in Russia and here in the United States. He immigrated to the United States in 1986. He was an honorable and truthful man, who loved and adored his family. He would spend countless hours with his children outdoors, he was an avid fisherman and passed on his passion to all who was around him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile was always found on his face. He loved the Catskills and loved to roam the hills, woods, streams and lakes over the past 30 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be terribly missed.

He is survived by his wife Galina; children Eli and Lili Bendersky; his grandchildren Leib, Zev, Naomi, Ahuva and Yosi; and great-grandchildren Dov and Beri.
