Joan Moore

Obituary of Joan L. Moore

Joan L. Moore of Neversink, NY, entered into eternal rest on October 14, 2018, surrounded by her family. Joan was the daughter of the late Annabel (Williams) Smith and Vernon R. Smith of Port Ewen, NY. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Allen Moore.
Joan had a perseverance that colored her life and personality. Although she had only recently adopted the phrase "Captain of her own ship", you can see that strength of purpose throughout her life. Her strength and faith carried her through a myriad of life events that may have felled a lesser woman. Joan was also hardworking and loyal. She began work at the age of 14, eventually to work 35 years at Channel Masters in Ellenville, NY. She completed her career at the Maxon Company in Neversink, NY after she retired at the age of 73. Her belief in hard work has been ingrained in her children and grandchildren. It was such a prevailing belief-you could not help but be inspired to reach the same level of commitment. Her family and friends remember her as being generous to a fault saying "she would give you the coat off her own back." Not only was she giving but she always fought for the underdog and if she felt someone needed a family she would quickly volunteer.
Joan believed that having a sense of humor could get you through most situations in life. Her humor came through most in her storytelling. She loved to share with everyone who would sit a moment to listen to the past. She loved to laugh and her children and grandchildren were a great source of joy-and if you really wanted to see something special you would wait to tell the punchline right as she was taking a sip of strawberry daiquiri.
Joan was a dedicated member of the Neversink Ladies Auxiliary, Ulster Heights United Methodist Church and the Bethel Seniors.
She is survived and will be missed dearly by her children: Darlene Wachter and her husband Allen, Fred Moore, Jr. and his wife Susan and William Moore and his wife Kim; her grandchildren: Greg (Alissa), Michelle, Johnny (Katie Frost), Lacey (Damian), Fred III (Paige), Josh (Diane), Brittney (Chris Smith) and Bruce (Natalia Cruz); great-grandchildren: Chrissy, Fred IV, Johnathan and Anthony; as well as her best friend and travel partner Mary Caughey. She is predeceased by her siblings Elizabeth Barbarini and Raymond Smith.
Joan's family would like to send their heartfelt thanks to the hospice workers who helped them and Joan during her time of need.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan's memory to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stonybrook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.
