Obituary of Evelyn Joyce Parrish
Evelyn Joyce Parrish a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.
The daughter of the late Benjamin and Hester Linnen Smalls. Evelyn graduated from Robert Smalls High School in Beaufort, SC. Shortly after graduation she moved to Brooklyn close to relatives then eventually to South Fallsburg where other relatives resided. She enjoyed her tight knit first cousins.
South Fallsburg is where she met and married Charlie Parrish 52 years ago. She retired form Sullivan County Adult Care Center where she was employed as a C.N.A.; she also worked at various hospitals in the area.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Charlie Parrish of South Fallsburg, NY, her children Antonia (Yassin) Mohamed of Alexandria, VA., Troy Small of Rochester, NY, Clarence “Darnell (Tina) Smalls Sr. of Harris, NY, Max James Watts of South Fallsburg, NY, grandchildren Ashley, Danielle, Clarence Jr., Donta and Shyla Smalls, Abigail Clark and Alicia Cardona, four great grandchildren, a sister Ester Smalls of Augusta, GA, a brother Leon Smalls of Walterboro, SC, a special cousin Daisy Robinson of Buffalo, NY, one Uncle Joseph Linnen of Beaufort, SC, sister-in-law’s Mae Frances, Elizabeth, Mona Jean, Gloria, Dorothy Mae and Veronica, brother-in-law’s Charles, Leroy all of Alabama and Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Benjamin and Hester L. Smalls, her siblings Johnathan Linnen, Benjamin Smalls Jr. Lydia Seabrooks, grandson Justin Anthony Smalls.
Due to her failing health over the years Evelyn wasn’t able to attend her church Friendship Baptist Church in Ferndale, NY. Evelyn was a big fan of the NBA Golden State Warriors with one player as her favorite: Steph Curry.
She loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 13th at 1 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello, NY.
The family will receive friends and family following the services at Regency Manor Community Room 74 Sturgis Road Monticello, NY 12701.
