Obituary of James N. Houghtaling
James Houghtaling, 67 of Willowemoc, NY passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on August 30, 2018.
He was the son of the late Nial and Margaret Scott Houghtaling; born at home in Bradley, NY on July 18, 1951.
Jim graduated from Tri-Valley Central School in 1970 and later proudly served in the US Army receiving an honorable discharge. Jim had a 28 year career as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Neversink. He continued to plow snow and drove a truck for Catskill Mountain Sugar House in semi-retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors, riding motorcycles and snowmobiles, tending to his homestead, and sharing stories with family and friends.
Jim was a well-respected member of his community. He conducted his life with humility, generosity, and bravery. He will be greatly missed, but always remembered.
Jim was married to his wife Carol Anne Gildersleeve for 32 years. He is survived by his sister Marion Wood and husband Gary of Tennessee, four daughters Charity Muzuruk of Woodbourne, NY, Lorrie Hamilton and husband Lee of Weeki Wachee, FL, Christie Muzuruk-Payne and husband John of Harris, NY, Keri Santiago of Palm Harbor, FL and one son James B Houghtaling of Hudson, FL., eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Colonial Funeral Home 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 11-1:00pm. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Willowemoc Baptist Church, Church Street Willowemoc, NY.
