Obituary of Beatrice Rexford

Beatrice Rexford passed away peacefully in the early morning on July 12, 2018. She was 88 years old. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Sadie Hardenbergh, born on March 30, 1930 in the Hasbrouck farm house. She graduated from Liberty High School and went to Vassar Nursing School obtaining her degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Liberty Loomis Hospital in OB_GYN. Over her career she delivered hundreds of babies residing in Sullivan County. She finished her nursing career caring for the elderly at Sullivan County Infirmary. She married her beloved high school sweetheart Bernard Rexford on June 23, 1951. Together they had six children, Mark, Marianne, Timothy Peter, David and Bernadette who went on to grace her with 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger sister, Virginia Rexford. As her children's first teacher she taught them all how to garden and became a certified Master Gardener with Sullivan County Cornell Cooperative Extension. When the children were older she returned to her love of sewing and founded the Calico Geese Quilters of Sullivan County, joined Ulster County Guild, Wilwyck later to be inducted into the Catskill Mountain Quilters Hall of Fame. Her quilts were all hand stitched and were on exhibit in museums and libraries. She has left a legacy of daffodils. Every spring to this day, Bea's little house and woods blooms with a thousand rays of glory. Peaceful colors of saffron, butter and yellow and soft peach spring to life. She is one women who had planted one bulb at a time to bring sunshine into this world. Passer-bys stop to wonder at this beautiful sight each spring. The legacy she leaves her friends and family is to revel in the small increments of daily living to accomplish magnificence. Visitation will be on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 6317 State Route 42, Woodbourne, NY 12788 at 12:30 pm. Father Lynch will officiate. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Woodbourne, NY Arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Memorial Funeral Home.
