Obituary of Michael E Jacob
Michael E. "Mike" Jacob, of Grahamsville, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018. He was 74.
He was the son of the late Henry and Edith Jacob, born on November 26, 1943 in Manhattan, NY.
Mike married the love of his life, Esta Komorsky, on August 5, 1973 and truly loved the life he had with her and their many "children", his German Shepherds, who were his pride and joy over the years. In addition another joy were his many close friends, some of which he's known since he was 12.
In his younger years, Mike was a choir boy at Our Lady of Good Council in NYCM and earned a vocational degree from Samuel Gompers in the Bronx.
Mike proudly served our country in the US Army from 1963 until 1966, with basic training at Ft. Bragg. He was a medic for the 82nd Airborne Division where he had 100's of jumps. During his time in the military he served in the Dominican Crisis in Santo Domingo. He was finally honorably discharged and earned several medals including National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, a Medical Badge and PRCHT Medal.
He was truly a "jack of all trades" and a true master of all of them. Among his many hobbies were photography, he even had his own dark room, and loved to capture nature shots, his friends and his dogs. His photos decorate his home, plus the walls of many of his favorite doctors. Woodworking was another hobby, he had a shopsmith and many machines for making photo frames, cutting boards ornate shelves, coat racks and wishing wells. He even had a small wood mill in his basement workshop. From scratch with his own two hands, mike built one of the most amazing train layouts in his basement, model 0 gauge trains were another hobby of his. The layout included 4 levels of trains, including a subway. He built every tree and mountain and painted the people and placed them in the trains. Anyone who saw the layout said it was the best and most intricate layout they ever saw. His mechanical talent did not stop with the trains, he could take a car or complex camera apart and rebuild it, all from memory. He continued to be mechanically inclined in his career working as a GMC A-parts counter person starting at Potamkin Cadillac in Manhattan and Moore Cadillac in Richmond, VA. And when he wasn't in a workshop he enjoyed spending his time outdoors, tending to his garden which included an array of plants, crops and flowers or collecting coins. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Esta Jacob, at home; his German Shepherd, Lucy; sisters Rose Jacob of Kew Gardens, Queens and Julia (Susie) Mednick and her husband Greg; brother-in-laws Brian Rubenstein and his wife Stacie of Plantation, FL, Glenn Komorsky and his wife Debbi of Woodbourne and Steve Komorsky of Liberty; several nieces and nephews including Gregory Mednick, Jr., and Rachel and Rebecca Rubenstein; several great nieces and nephews; and his best friends Maryann and Tom Cosentino of Woodbourne, Danny and Marilyn Sheehan of Monroe and Grace and Joe Perisott of Sussex, NJ.
He is predeceased by his parents Edith and Henry and his brothers John, Arthur and Eddie.
A memorial visitation will be held at a later date.
