Obituary of Eunice Grace Sheeley

Eunice Grace Sheeley, of Grahamsville, passed away on Friday, January 05, 2018 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 92. She was the daughter of the late John F. Scheuren and Eunice Race, born on June 26, 1925 in Monticello, NY. After graduating from the Brooklyn Methodist School of Nursing, Eunice started her career as a nurse at Hamilton Avenue Hospital as well as working as a substitute nurse at Tri-Valley, until her retirement in 1962, then she went on to work for her family's home heating business as a manager. Eunice also proudly served our country in the U.S. Women Army Corps during World War II as a Cadet Nurse. She was a member of both the Grahamsville United Methodist Church and the Neversink Lions, staying very active in her community. She also enjoyed helping her husband, Horace, with all his endeavors. But her true love was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, it was a position she held dear in her heart. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Horace Sheeley whom she was married to for over 50 years. Eunice is survived by her children, Jim Sheeley and his wife, Susan of Claryville and John E. Sheeley of West Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren: Mike Sheeley and his wife, Deanna of Grahamsville, Megan Bates and her husband, Jason of San Angelo, TX, Karyn Dirie and her husband, Mike of Youngsville, Luke, Benjamin and Nathaniel Sheeley, all of West Des Moines, IA; five great-grandchildren: Brea, Chase and Madelynn Sheeley and Aedea and Burke Bates. Memorial donations in Eunice's name can be made to Grahamsville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 86, Grahamsville, NY 12740. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9th at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. A funeral service at 11 a.m. will be held on Wednesday, January 10th at Grahamsville United Methodist Church. Rev. Peggy Ann Sauerhoff will officiate. Burial will follow at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.
