Obituary of William Arthur Block
On January 5th 2018, William Block passed away peacefully at home in the presence of family after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme.
The son of the late Solomon and Diane (Berman) Block, Bill was born April 19, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY. He was married to Eleanor (Doucette) Block on April 7, 1969.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; two sons: Jeremy Block of Woodridge, NY; David Block (Marisa) of Montgomery, NY; a daughter, Sally Block of Albany, NY; and a grandson, Xavier. He is also survived by a brother, Don Block of Malvern, PA.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Bill served as a SeaBee in the US Navy from 1967-73, receiving a National Defense Service Medal and an Honorable Discharge. He was stationed at Weymouth Naval Airbase in 1969 and it was there that he met Eleanor Doucette. Shortly thereafter, they married and started a family. Upon discharge from the Navy, Bill worked as a Master Technician at Shaw Saab in Hingham, Mass before relocating to Woodridge, NY in 1982. He continued to work as a mechanical advisor to various auto body shops until 2002. After entering semi-retirement, he traveled to various department stores for occasional work as a display artist.
Bill was fascinated with all things automotive. He was member of several Automobile enthusiast clubs and was the founder of Timeless Wheels and KRONUS. He enjoyed designing houses both digitally and with pen and paper. He often went for extremely long drives, without fear of getting lost. He also loved visiting Cape Cod.
Cremation will take place privately with a memorial planned for April, the exact date to be announced later.
Memorial donations to the family of William or to St. Jude Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
