Obituary of Stewart Strauss
Stewart Strauss of Woodbourne, NY, went into eternal rest at home with his family at his side after a long battle with cancer. Stew was born in New York City to Robert (Ruby) and Annie Chipkowitz Strauss. But as a true country boy he escaped from the city to work at numerous ranches in his heyday.
Stew loved his craft as a horseshoer for 51 years and would say it doesn't get better than going to work loving what you do. His four-legged clients were his passion and he was very compassionate in keeping the old guys comfortable and making sure that they were all at the top of their game.
Stew proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and started his horseshoeing career shortly after. He leaves behind his wife Barbara (Zuckerman); his two daughters Tarra and Felicia and son-in-law John; two grandsons JT and Tyler; sister Jaqueline Treifler and brother Stanley Strauss; several nieces and nephews and was preceded by his brother Rudy Strauss.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County: especially Adria and Dr. Dinsmore for their extraordinary care.
Donations in Stewart's name can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County, 800 Stony Brook Ct, Newburgh, NY 12550.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, November 20th at Sharon Gardens, 273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY 10595. Family will be sitting Shiva at the family home all day on Tuesday, November 21st.
