Barbara (Bobi) Kortright Benton posted a condolence

Dear Family, I was in high school in Liberty when first my sister, Ruth Kortright Wheeler, introduced our family to Rita and through her I knew of Dick. I loved Rita, what a sweet heart, and now to learn more of Dick and his Life experiences is awe inspiring.
When visiting Liberty I would occasionally run into Rita who never changed from her vibrant self and once I saw Dick at Shop Rite on Veterans Day handing out the infamous red poppy.
The story of his life should be told and retold to young Americans (and old) that we might all recognize what sacrifice is all about. I do hope that in the 10 years that Dick worked at the Tri Valley School that his story came to light. If not, shame on them.
So proud too that in 2003 he received his high school diploma which in itself should spur students on to greater heights.
Bless you and yours and may there be opportunities in the days ahead to share Dicks story. Now, more than ever, we need people to stand up for what our soldiers have defended forever.
Sincerely,
Bobi Benton

My deepest sympathy to Dick's family.
He was a true friend to everyone he met.
He is gone but will never be forgotten.
Love to Barbara, David, Ann and all of his grandchildren, and sisters.
I'm sure this is what Dick would tell everyone:
“Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all.”

The dash (-) on a tombstone symbolizes the life an individual has lived, Dick lived his life with dignity. He was a soft spoken man with a heart of gold. Dick never asked for anything in return for what he did for others, The way he lived his life is an example for us all. The memories he gave everyone he touched will live in our hearts forever. Rest in peace my Lone Ranger.
