Obituary of Ronald William Hinkle

Ronald William Hinkle, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. He was 71.

He was the son of the late George W. Hinkle and Florence Schlagel, born on July 10, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York.

Ronald proudly served our county in the US Marine Corps from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. While he was in the military he married the love of his life, Bridget, on July 1, 1965. He then went on to work in sanitation for the NYC Department of Sanitation and worked his way up to District Superintendent. He was very involved in his community and was a member of several organizations including Loch Sheldrake Fire Co., the VFW, American Legion, Elks Club and Fire Police. In his free time he enjoyed the simple things in life like smoking cigars, eating a hot dog, watching TV and cooking. He was a food shopping extraordinaire and coupon aficionado, being in the kitchen was a real passion for him was known for his chili and also known to make sure no one went home hungry he would “feed the world”. When Ronald was around you knew who was in charge, he lived life by his own set of rules, and everyone loved him for it. He had his own unique sense of humor and was larger than life. He was there for anyone who needed him, and was a father to everyone who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all who knew him, he will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 52 years: Bridget Hinkle; his children Brian Hinkle (Jackie), Kenneth and Michael Hinkle and Sharon Depew (Ralph); grandchildren: James, Sarah, Jonathan, Kayla, Kenneth Jr., Jenna, Kassandra, Ashley, Jessica, Ralphie, Hannah, Veronica, Tabitha and Victoria; as well as 10 great-grandchildren; his brother Gary Hinkle; and his canine companions: Corky, Trouble and Callie. He is predeceased by one grandchild Zachary.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. A firematic funeral service will be held at 11am on Sunday, October 22nd at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty, NY with full military honors.
