Obituary of Shirley Chaiet
Shirley Chaiet, of Woodbourne, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017. She was 90.
She was the daughter of David Ross and Sylvia Hirschfield, born on August 21, 1926 in Bronx, NY.
Shirley worked as a teacher at Fallsburg Central School District until her retirement. She was the secretary of Congregation B'nai Israel Temple and a member of the B'nai Brith Sisterhood. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting lap blankets to donate to "the old folks" in nursing homes. And she always made sure to keep the memory of her beloved husband, Julie Chaiet, alive for many years she hosted a golf outing in his name. But above all, she enjoyed creating a welcoming family life for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. She kept her door open and the cookie jar full and always made sure everyone was well fed. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her children Clifford, Carl, Claudia and Cara; daughters-in-law Jane and Lynn; sons-in-law Richard and Phil; six grand-children: Jennie, Meredith, Jeremy, Joseph, Max and Olivia; grandchildren-in-laws Marcus, Erin, and Rachel; great-grandchild Thorin and soon-to-be great-grandchild Mikaia; as well extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband and love of her life of over 55 years, Julian Chaiet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. Burial will follow at Congregation B'nai Israel, Glen Wild, NY.
