Obituary of Barry Foster

Barry B. Foster, 70, of Livingston Manor passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013. He was born on May 11, 1942 in Liberty, NY to the late Arnold and Joan Foster. Barry?s passionate personality was infectious. His love for educating children, for baseball, for his lifelong hometown and most of all for his family shone through in all he did in his life. His dedication to others through service was where he found his true happiness. He was quick to laugh and more importantly to make others do the same. He was a kind and gentle man who proudly wore his heart on his sleeve. He was a good friend to many and strived to bring joy to all who came into his life. Barry graduated from Livingston Manor Central High School in 1960 where he was a star basketball player. He served our nation in the Army from 1963 to 1965. In 1968, Barry graduated from Emporia State University of Kansas with both a Bachelors and Masters degrees. He had a long and influential career as an educator in both Sullivan and Orange counties, teaching high school English at Livingston Manor, Delaware Valley, Hancock and Fallsburg Schools. Barry became assistant principal and later principal in the Pine Bush School District, Later in his career he moved to Fallsburg High School retiring as principal in 1997. During his time as an educator Barry coached girls and boys basketball, cross country, and swimming. He was the past president of the Livingston Manor Central School Board of Education, as well as the past president of the Livingston Manor Rotary Club and past assistant director of Rotary Club. Barry was a member and past master of the Livingston Manor F&A Masons Lodge #791. In his retirement years Barry being the avid sports enthusiast he opened Hot Corner Sports Collectables and ran it for over 10 years. Barry leaves behind his loving wife Diane, his two sons Ryan and his wife Claudia and Corey Sims and his fiancee Kirsten Harlow, Along with three grandchildren Ayla, Arley, and Sorin. He is predeceased by his sister Nancy Jane Foster. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Herbert C Bryant Funeral Home 29 Pearl Street Livingston Manor, NY from 2-4 and 7-9. Services will be held at Agudas Achim Synagogue on Rock Avenue Livingston Manor, NY on Tuesday, April 23 at 3 p.m. Interment will follow at Lew Beach Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Livingston Manor Ambulance Corps and Agudas Achim Synogogue.
