Obituary of Louise Dominica Thomas
The Reverend Louise Dominica Thomas, of Otisville, NY passed on April 17, 2015 at the age of 70. Born in Concord, North Carolina, October 26, 1944.
Louise married her soul mate William J. Thomas on August 8, 1997. Survivors include, husband William, daughters Lisa Brenna, of Monroe, NY and Dawn Alvarez of Liberty, NY. Sister Martha R. Saviano and husband Al Saviano of Saddle River, NJ. Nephew Christopher and Lauren and Nicola of NYC, Niece Nicole Saviano Kowal and husband Noel of Denville, New Jersey and Niece Giulia Saviano Ennis and daughter Sofia of Allendale, NJ. Eight Grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren, from New York and New Jersey. One great niece, and one great nephew. Several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Last but most assuredly not least, her little Maggie, Markie and Coty.
Rev. Thomas attended Harriman College and graduated from Empire State College, SUNY, New York and Wesley Seminary, Washington, D.C. . She was ordained as a Deacon/Associated Member of the New York Annual Conference, where she served her Lord for 27 years in the ministry. Her greatest love was preaching God's word.
She served as Student Pastor from 1982-1983 in Southfields, NY; As Pastor, from 1983-1989 in West Sullivan Parish consisting of Narrowsburg, Cochecton Center, Fosterdale, Kenoza Lake and Jeffersonville United Methodist Churches. From 1989-1994 at Highland Falls United Methodist Church and Fort Montgomery United Methodist Church. From 1997-2002 Cornwall United Methodist Church. From 2002-2009 Ellenville and Westbrookville, United Methodist Churches. Due to illness she retired in 2009 from The United Methodist Church of The New York Annual Conference after serving 27 years in the ministry.
Reverend Thomas served on several committees' on the District and Conference level of the United Methodist church. One of the first Leaders for the Lay Speakers Committees on the Hudson West District; She served on the District Parish Development Committee and as Chair of Parish Development on the Hudson West District; She served on the Conference Parish Development; She served on District Grounds and Building Committee on Hudson West; Hudson West became known as the Catskill Hudson District years later.
Reverend Thomas was also trained as a Parish Consultant for The New York Annual Conference. She was also a Mentor for some Candidates entering the United Methodist Ministry.
Visitation will be 4-8 PM on Sunday, April 19, at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 North Main Street Ellenville, NY. Funeral Service will be 10 AM on Monday, April 20, at the Ellenville United Methodist Church, Ellenville, NY. The Reverend Ken Cottington will officiate. Burial will be at Fantinekill Cemetery.
