EDWARD ROBERT ABBOTT December 14, 1941 - April 1 2015 South Fallsburg, NY Edward Robert Abbott of South Fallsburg, New York, died peacefully at his home after a brief illness on Wednesday, April 1 2015. The son of the late George Edward and Clara (Hunter) Abbott, Ed was born December 14, 1941 in Hackensack, NJ and lived there before moving to Orange County and settling in Fair Oaks. He graduated from Middletown High School and went on to work with his father as a roofer, later becoming a mechanic and business owner in Wurtsboro. He was predeceased by his wife, Sheila L. (Becker) Abbott, and sisters: Mary Jane Harrison and Jeanette Crance. Survivors include his daughter, Faith Abbott-Bowden and her husband, Roger of Wurtsboro; his son, Edward L. Abbott of Palm Bay, FL; and grandson, Luke of Wurtsboro. Ed is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Shawn, Brian, Angel, George, Darlene, and Vincent; his family in Ohio; who he loved and cherished. Ed's memory will always live on in the hearts of his children's friends and their children whom he regarded of as his own. Ed will be remembered as a strong, loving, generous and funny man. He had a special way of opening his heart and offering people unconditional love and acceptance. This was most evident in the warmth and hospitality the he and Shelia created in their home. Ed and Shelia opened their home to many people and animals over the years. Their home was "the place to be". Ed loved to fish and hunt, especially with his father, son, cousins and friends. He raised hunting dogs with his father and was at times a member of local rod and gun clubs. Ed loved his cat, Pookie, playing cards, racing, football and baseball, was a pony league coach in his youth and enjoyed watching any baseball, from professional to pee wee. He could drive anything and enjoyed stock car dirt track racing, boating, and snowmobiling. Ed was a storyteller and loved when his family and friends were gathered together to share stories. In lieu of flowers a donation to a charity of your choice can be made in Ed's honor. A visitation will take place from 12 to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 10th at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne NY 12788.
