I will always consider it a blessing to have known John, (AKA: "Jr", AKA: "Bob") and consider him a great friend. We shared an unbelievable number of childhood memories ranging from playing alongside each other in both baseball and football to hunting and camping. My memories are filled with the laughter and joy of a childhood friendship we which we were able to share and can be rare if not impossible to find anywhere else. Although we grew apart following graduation, these memories and our childhood experiences will forever be remembered. He was a true brother to me in every use of the definition. While I regret my inability to share in the service to remember John, my heart, thoughts and prayers are with the entire Gassler family.

I met John about 5 years ago. He was a vibrant, funny man. When he came to support us at the Army Guard I quickly came to rely on him to tackle any challenge with vigor. If you knew John you couldn't help but know about Holly and the kids through him. I remember his excitement at their marriage and the way he virtually floated on air when he spoke of his love for Holly. My heart ached with the challenges faced by their family over the last couple of years but I was in awe of his ability to continue to push forward through it all. My most fervent prayers are offered to Holly and the broader Gassler family during this difficult time. Know that he loved and cherished you all.

I did not know John long, but I feel that I did know him well. John was a good man, a man who valued his family above all else. His greatest pride was his wife and their children, you could always see the love in his eyes when he spoke of them. He will be missed, my deepest condolences to Holly and the kids.

My husband Jared and I had the honor of being friends with John. He worked with my husband for awhile on Andrews AFB and we have been friends since. He always spoke of Holly and the kids and you could just tell how much he loved and adored them. John such a very genuine and caring friend and I appreciated his thoughtfulness to check on me while my husband was deployed. We will definitely miss John very much and will be praying for peace and comfort for everyone in the weeks to come. Rest in peace...
