Obituary of Shirley Zucker Sawchuk
Shirley Zucker Sawchuk passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Achieve Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility after a prolonged battle against Alzheimer's with her family by her side.
She was the adopted daughter of the late Rubin and Lena Stern Adler of the Bronx, NY. Shirley graduated from high school and cosmetology school in Hollywood, California.
She is survived by her daughter Hannah Zucker Corbett (David Tooker) of Neversink, NY, Two grandsons, Greg Corbett and his wife Hope Osnato-Corbett of Loch Sheldrake, NY., who have been her loving and dedicated caregivers for the past six years; Tim Corbett and his wife Sarah of Lesage, WV., and several nieces and nephews.
She was the widow of Thomas Sawchuk. She was predeceased by former husbands, David Tuttle and Benjamin Zucker and one brother Charles Adler of Madison, WI.
She was a prominent business woman in both Sullivan and Ulster Counties for over 40 years. She owned and operated Greenfield Park Mobile Home Sales & Thunderbird Mobile Home Park in Woodbourne, NY. She was a trailblazer and pioneer in the male dominated manufactured home industry in an era where few women worked outside the home in unconventional professions. She was instrumental in helping many county residents purchase their first homes.
She was a former member of the Tri-Valley Lioness. She loved going to the theater, movies, restaurants and finding bargains at the local auctions.
She was a nonjudgmental, compassionate, charitable person, who provided food, shelter, transportation and aide in securing employment to anyone who came to her home.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to: The Adult Day Care Center at CRMC, the staff of Achieve Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, Dr. Scot Selbo of Crystal Run Healthcare, Unity Ambulette, Bonnie Lewis and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Caregivers Support Group. Without your continuous care and support it would have been impossible to preserve mom's dignity and care for her at home for these many years.
