Obituary of Donald TerBush

Donald W. TerBush, 84, of Grahamsville, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Orange Regional Medical Center on July 16, 2012. He was born on August 28, 1927 to the late Milo and Mae Countryman TerBush. Don has now been reunited with the first love of his life, Frances Marie Sheeley, whom he married in 1948. They were married until 1994 when Frances passed away. In April 1995 he married Sylvia Rubenstein, who also predeceased him in 2005. Don served his country in the US Navy during World War II on the US Hornet. In the 1960?s he was co-owner of Roedon Construction. He was a retired correctional officer from Woodbourne Correctional Facility and a former chief deputy of the Sullivan County Sheriff?s Department. He was a past master and present member of the Masonic Lodge #521. He was the charter president and a current member of the Tri-Valley Lions Club and an honorary lifetime member of the Grahamsville Fire Department. He was the current treasurer of the VFW Post Stangle Bernstein and past town Councilman, Dog Catcher and Assessor for the Town of Neversink. He was a past Sullivan County Democratic Committee Chairman and was recently acknowledged for his years of service. Don was an avid sportsman and sports fan, pitching his reknown "sucker pitch" for the Grahamsville Fire Department up until his mid 70?s. He loved sitting in his easy chair, watching sports on the television, especially his Yankees. He was a past president and honorary member of the Buckaroo Hunting Lodge and enjoyed his yearly trip to Camp Hayes Brook. He loved the town he lived in very much and loved working the various events associated with the Town of Neversink community. Don is survived by his sons: Barry at home, Timothy (Debra) of Liberty, Kenneth (companion Christy Haff) of Woodbourne, and Craig (Debra) of Neversink and daughters, Deborah Ackerley (Rubin) of Grahamsville and MaryLou Vernooy (John) of Woodbourne. He is also survived by four stepchildren: Esta (Mike) Jacob, Steve (Yoriko) Komorsky, Glen (Debbie) Komorsky and Brian (Stacie) Rubenstein. He was a wonderful grandfather to Tonya, Todd, Troy, Nicole, Heather, Johnathan, Andrea, Amanda, Brianna, and Johnny; and great grandfather to Doug, Dean, Timothy, and Caroline. He is survived by his sister, Virginia Anderson, as well as several nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his granddaughter, Erinn TerBush; his brother, Arthur TerBush and his nephew, Thomas TerBush. The family would like to thank the staff at Orange Regional Medical Center for the care and comfort provided during his illness. Memorial contributions can be made to the Tri-Valley Lions Club, the Grahamsville Fire Department, or a Charity of one?s Choice. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. Funeral service will be on Thursday, July 19 at the Grahamsville Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville, NY.
